The Story Behind

The Mountaineer mascot has served as the living symbol of West Virginia University since 1934. Chosen by the student body and selected by the Mountain Honorary, the individual who dons the buckskins represents the pioneer spirit of the Appalachian region. This figure honors that legacy by replicating the traditional attire, including the fringed buckskin jacket and the unmistakable coonskin cap. It marks a significant milestone for Funko, launching their collegiate line with one of the most recognizable and beloved figures in all of college sports.

Holding this figure connects you to the roar of the crowd during a Saturday night game under the lights. The attention to detail—specifically the WV logo on the satchel and the authentic look of the musket—mirrors the intensity of the mascot on the field. It captures the essence of the “Country Roads” tradition, turning a piece of plastic into a tangible piece of university identity. Placing this on your shelf signals your allegiance to the gold and blue, ensuring that the Mountaineer spirit remains present even when you are far from the hills of West Virginia.

Care and Maintenance Guide

To keep your vinyl figure in pristine condition, avoid direct sunlight, which can cause color fading over long periods. Dust the surface gently using a soft, dry microfiber cloth. Do not use chemical cleaners, solvents, or abrasive sponges, as these will strip the finish and damage the molded details. If the figure requires a deeper clean, a slightly damp cloth with water is sufficient, provided you dry it immediately afterward to prevent moisture buildup in the crevices.

The figure possesses a balanced weight, allowing it to stand firmly on flat surfaces without the need for additional support. The vinyl material is durable but should be handled with care to prevent scuffs or scratches on the painted surfaces. Keep the original window box for storage if you plan to rotate your display, as it provides protection against environmental debris and accidental impact. This item is intended for display purposes and maintains its structural integrity best when kept in a stable, temperature-controlled environment.
