Fortnite Shakes Up Battle Pass System with Price Hike and New “OG” Pass

With the release of Chapter 4 Season 5, Fortnite, the constantly changing online battle royale phenomenon, is making major adjustments to its Battle Pass system.  The ordinary Battle Pass has become more expensive for the first time in the game’s history, and a new “OG” Battle Pass is also being released. Players of all skill levels will undoubtedly be impacted by these modifications as well as those made to the Fortnite Crew membership service.

Price Increase for Battle Pass

The price of the Fortnite Battle Pass will increase from 950 V-Bucks to 1,000 V-Bucks on December 1st, 2024. Even while this might seem like a slight increase, this is the first time Epic Games has raised the Battle Pass’s cost since Fortnite’s debut.

It’s crucial to remember that the minimum V-Bucks buy is 1,000 for USD 7.99, thus the actual cost is essentially unchanged.  This change, however, prevents gamers from using their remaining V-Bucks from prior seasons to fully buy the new Battle Pass.

The “Fortnite OG” Battle Pass is now available.

The “Fortnite OG” Battle Pass will be available in Chapter 4 Season 5 in addition to the regular Battle Pass. With a simplified advancement system and 50 levels of rewards, including vintage skins and stuff, this special pass is made especially for seasoned gamers.

Unexpectedly, even though the “Fortnite OG” Battle Pass has fewer levels than the regular Battle Pass, it will still cost 950 V-Bucks. Within the Fortnite community, this has sparked considerable discussion regarding the benefits of each pass.

Changes to the Fortnite Crew

The basic and “OG” Battle Passes will be available to Fortnite Crew subscribers as part of their membership, in addition to the standard monthly perks like 1,000 V-Bucks and special skins. There’s a catch, though: to keep these Battle Passes available, players must continue to be Fortnite Crew subscribers. This modification is probably intended to promote recurring subscriptions and give Crew members steady value.

Community Response

The Fortnite community has responded to these adjustments in a variety of ways. Some gamers are worried about the rising cost of accessing Fortnite’s content, while others recognize the necessity for a pricing change. There has also been controversy around the launch of the “OG” Battle Pass, with some players doubting its worth in comparison to the regular Battle Pass.

The Argument for Epic Games

Although Epic Games has not given a clear explanation, several variables are probably to blame for the Battle Pass price rise. The decision may be influenced by inflation, growing development expenses, and the requirement to support additional content and changes over time.

A possible change in Epic Games’ revenue approach is indicated by these modifications to the Fortnite Battle Pass system. The long-term effects of these modifications on player engagement and spending patterns are still unknown.  Will seasoned players find the “OG” Battle Pass appealing? Will casual players be discouraged from buying the regular Battle Pass as a result of the price increase? Time will tell.

The introduction of a price increase and a new “OG” Battle Pass marks a significant evolution in Fortnite’s Battle Pass system. While these changes may take some getting used to, they reflect the ongoing development and expansion of the Fortnite universe. As Chapter 4 Season 5 unfolds, players will have the opportunity to experience these changes firsthand and decide how they fit into their Fortnite experience.
